Hurricane Gustav Miles From the Coast Angers A Cat
Okay, so it’s not a hurricane anymore, it’s just the last wet and rainy leftovers of Gustav that are ruining my day.
I live 500 miles 9givve or take) from the nearest coastline, but today I am sneezy and my world is wet because of gustav. Worse yet, Ma is considering absement restrictions.
Now, for those of you who don’t live in the subtropical swamp known as southern Illinois, you may not understand that day after day of rain means puddles in the basement. If the puddles get too deep, the door is closed and I am not allowed to play in them.
Apparently, water that seeps through cinder blocks and into the basement is yucky and nasty and might make me sick. Ma gets very concerned about such things.
Anyway, as I sit here in my basket and watch the rain fall, I worry about my union members who live closer to the coast. Ma tells me that many people refused to ‘vacuate if they can’t take their pets. Good for them, I say, and I’m glad that union organizers have managed to get more emergency shelters to take pets.
But man am I glad I never have to go to one of those things. Can you imagine having to stay in your crate all the time?
I certainly wouldn’t get to wander around like I do at home. That would make me so sad…
But worse yet, what about those poor kitties (okay, and the doggies too) that have to live in Florida or on the Gulf Coast with these nasty storms. Who worries about them?
I know some people think they can lock their kitty in the house for a few days with lots of food and water and the kitty will be fine, but what if the roof blows away? Or the water gets too deep?
I know, I should be worried about other things, but with the rain coming down and chasing my squirrels and birds away, I can’t help but wonder…who takes care of the kitties?
